He should have been punished as even though he was at home, it was done with school property and they don't hand those laptops out so people have be profane on the net.
However, expulsion is way overboard for some foul language. Maybe if he was downloading tons of porn or illegal software or something.
I predict that in the next few days there will be a Change.org petition for this and the school/district will do some major back-peddling.
