BenVTrigger said: From what I've been hearing Orbis is indeed the codename, it seems pretty reliable.
What I'm more interested in is that it is using the AMD Southern Islands GPU and it will display in 4096x2160 resolution and is easily capable of running 3D in true 1080p.
Should be a beastly rig, also apparently its using AMD x64 CPU and is launching 2013. |
Wow, where did you hear that? That resolution is also slightly overkill lol

A little birdie told me........
Also its being leaked out on the web a bit, I believe Kotaku may be running a story on it now from what I heard certain people saying, either way the development kits have been in the hands of developers for a while now and I've heard some things, so far good things in terms of hardware.

0_0 that birdie...keep talking to it
and damn man..about friggin time..I was getting bored with almost no rumors about the next PS home console with WiiU having plenty and xbox having some. Exciting times
but can you or someone else ..break the specs down and explain them in a noob friendly way?

Pretty much the Southern Islands GPU is the name of a next-gen family of graphics chips. They are 28nm so their tiny, run cool, and are powerfull as hell.
I'm interested to see what version the Orbis plans on using since I have no idea, or if its getting its own custom version, I honestly have no idea about that.
Either way its far and away superior to anything in the modern consoles. As for the resolution its displaying in, thats higher than pretty much any standard HDTV on the market right now, which means Sony must be banking on having the Orbis ready for the inevitable UD screens.

damn that does sound nice. 'imagines a ND made game for this...faints'
what are UD screens? Those 4k resolution ones?
