Soooo he wants Gears of War to no longer be Gears of War? Why not just make a new game franchise? And make it Batman Begins / Band of Brothers like. Start afresh and leave Gears as Gears. I think Epic's built up enough fan support that it won't have a problem getting people to buy into a new franchise.
And it's not like the dude-broness of Gears caused Gears 3 to sell badly. There's a substantial market for dude-bro stuff.
It'd be like Naughty Dog saying they want to take Uncharted in more of an emo direction.
