It depends. If that 27" Asus monitor is 2560x1440, he needs every bit of power of that GPU, but if it is 1920x1080 then yes, an GTX 580 is enough.

i think he meant the actual power supply was overkill. not the spec of the pc or any part. just that he could use a smaller power supply
