I think your jumping the gun a bit here, population growth in Europe is hardly in that bad of a state, and as Killerman said, Asian nations like Japan are in a MUCH worse position than Europe as a whole is

 

and personally, I think a stable population is better than a rapidly expanding population (like America), I watched a rather entertaining video showing America's population in a few years, it described quite correctly the problems with the amount of food the world would need to produce if America kept growing like it is (here's the video)
