The economy can easily handle a shrinking population. Any loss of labour is being more than offset every year by gains in productivity (you say it can lead to rising unemployment... but your argument is that there are fewer people?)
We are far from the point where the economy can't grow any more, if such a point even exists.
The real problem with ageing populations comes from the shit that the Governments have put in place: intergenerational welfare problems.
