I'll 2nd (or 3rd) newegg, the reviews by users are often helpful too. I would say if you are a student and thus have a free year of Amazon Prime it might be cheaper once shipping is added. Free 2 day shipping is a real steal if you have a .edu email address.

What are you planning on using the PC to do mostly?

Since this is my first build, I'm going to keep it simple and probably just make a general purpose computer.  I will probably use it for school work mostly.

AMD's Bulldozer might be a good fit for you, inexpensive with a solid general purpose GPU. Bulldozer hasn't lived up to the hype on the top end, but it makes a great mid-end machine. I'm less informed about the latest Intel stuff right now, so I'll let their base expand of that they offer. Last I check though if you want more cores for the price go AMD, if you want the fastest individual cores go Intel. My uses are primarily multithreaded on desktop, so I tend to AMD, but my brand new laptop is a low-power Intel i-7 varient, and it's great too.
