But seriously, seeing how the Playstation Network was changed to the Sony Entertainment Network, I wouldn't be surprised if the Playstation name was dropped altogether. Maybe like the Sony Gamestation or something along those lines - Sony would definitely be in the name.

Dropping 'PlayStation' from the name would be an absolutely horrible decision. That's the brand right there, 'PlayStation'. They drop it and it's almost like starting from scratch again.

Maybe with PS4 it will be a bit soon, but if Sony keeps coming last against its competitors it won't matter how strong the name used to be, it's a time for a rebranding. I also think you underestimate the average console buyer, and the brandname "Sony".

The name is still strong, there's no questioning that. From Sony's first venture into the gaming industry with the original PlayStation right up until their latest with the PlayStation Vita they've always carried the name 'PlayStation'. The names synonymous within the industry, and the wider public, no sense in ditching it.
