When I think of "epic" music I tend to think of most classical music that I like, because it's simply much longer so it has a "story arch" feel to it so to speak. You know it just has enough room to give definition to different parts of the song. You just can't get that with these short 3 minute songs of today. I have som favs from a few genres tho:

Rhapsody in Blue - George Gershwin
40th Symphony K 550 - Mozart
3rd Symphony 1rst Movement - Beethoven
Grand Polonaise Brilliante #1 - Chopin
Lateralus - Tool
Paranoid Android - Radiohead
Were in this Together - Nine Inch Nails

All those songs are at least 7 minutes, and it shows because each part gets there time to shine and you can point to distinct sections in the song. Most artists have a few epic songs up their sleeves despite the era of music we live in today.
