Wow, thats quite a chunk of cash for a game. On the other hand, at work my company picked up a project to develop a web presense for someone and they told us that previous to going with us, they spent close to 4 million dollars over three years and had to scrap it and start over. Big companies can bleed crazy amounts of money over time if projects go into limbo land. Has the project been in development by the same people the entire time? Maybe the dev studio went bankrupt and got sold to someone else who then re-invested in it (repeat several times)... As for the game itself, sounds like a neat concept =).
