i believe i've read sometimes that the human eye would only not see a difference anymore with over ~340ppi if you look from 25cm distance (which was meant as distance for reading)

That article I posted earlier had some stats on viewing distance and max viewable ppi. I've seen numbers between 300-400 dpi/ppi but at that point, I tend to stop paying attention. It seems to me that anything at or over 300 ppi is going to be just fine and considering that current tech usually hovers between 120-140ppi, there is loads of room to improve moving forward.

yeah i was on a german site now and they used numbers from different sources from different universities and so on (i believe 12 different numbers) and at average they say ~300ppi for 25cm is almost perfect. ipad 3 has 264ppi now.

they say everything under 200 ppi makes a huge difference and everything above 200 until the perfect ppi still improves the picture but not as much as below 200ppi.

i think this makes sense because, sure, as  more ppi as harder to tell the difference.

I read a veritable shit-ton of comic books on my iPad 2 and damn, the iPad 3's screen is so much better for reading comics. It's night and day. There are certain instances where the difference in ppi isn't only noticeable, it jumps off the screen and smacks you straight in the face. Graphic-based art that includes text is one of those instances.

But it's still not enough to get me to upgrade. The screen is really the only thing noticeably better about the iPad 3 and considering how I spent $800 on my iPad 2 and would only get about $500 for it today, that $300 isn't worth a super-nice screen. I'll wait for iPad 4 when almost everything will be better than my iPad 2 and will justify the rather hefty expense of upgrading.
