I don't know if I'd go as far as saying I won't buy any PS3 without BC anymore. There's just too much upcoming stuff for the console that I want. I won't pay current prices though. If the system got down to, say, $199, I'd have a hard time justifying not spending that money when I could find another PS2 for under $100. Otherwise, I guess I'd have to buy a used 60gb or something. BC is very important to me, and I would be extremely angry at Sony if they took away the option completely. I'm already fairly pissed that they dropped it from even one of their models.

My theory in the other thread was that this is just the first step towards introducing a new backwards compatible high-end SKU with some or all of the following features:

-A new pack-in game, or the option to choose an off-the-shelf game with the system
-The DualShock 3 bundled in
-A larger harddrive
-A 65nm processor

This is consistent with what they've done in Europe. Then again, dropping all BC support is also consistent with what they've done in Europe (and Japan). I'm hoping that they're planning to introduce the new high-end SKU in those regions too, and they just happened to get around to dropping the 80/60gb there earlier.
