A few of my mates are season ticket holders and even they cant believe Man U are in the top 4 let alone top of the league. They have been unimpressive for 18 months now but somehow keep grinding out results. Best days are a long way behind them. Utd need 4 or 5 massive signings or their decline will continue. United found wanting in Europe again. Been the same many times over the years under Fergie. Man U have massively under achieved in Europe throughout Fergies reign. Lets face it they were very lucky in both of the champions league wins under him. 1 cup winners cup and 2 Champions Leagues in 26 years under Fergie for the supposed biggest team in Europe and best manager in the world is a joke. One European trophy in 13 years.... Fact is that Fergie just isn't that tactically sound when it comes to Europe. |
Don't talk rubbish. Ferguson is one of the, if not best managers in the world. 2 champions leagues trophies 2 finals, only to lose to quite possibly the greatest team of all time in Barcelona. Man united may not have as good a squad as Chelsea, man city, or even totenham, but experience and unity within that squad means its not shock at all they are top. U can't look past ferguson for that.

Rubbish? its pure stats.
Even Liverpool with a much weaker squad and "worse" managers have had 2 champions league finals in the last 10 years and won one of them.
Fergie has underachieved in Europe, I dont see how you can square the statements "greatest manager in the world" along with one of the top 3 teams in the world getting to three champions league finals in over 20 years and only winning two. They were outplayed in their first win, won the second on penalties due to the terry slip and were utterly mullered in the third.
I agree that Fergie gets more from the team than other managers, but he doesnt have it in Europe. I cant wait for him to retire.... as their domestic form will more closely follow their European form.

No Liverpool had a very good squad at the time and never had to play Barcelona in both their finals. AC Milan were good but both weren't on the same level as Barcelona. It also doesn't matter how they won those finals, but fact is, they did. Ferguson is a top European manager, but yes your right, for the size of the club they should have won more in their history.
You can't deny his quality just based on Europe. He's the greatest British manager ever to have lived. He also won the European cup winners cup and super cup with Aberdeen!
