Well, the thread name is not very good since it's an MMO but it's not FINAL FANTASY. Anyway here is what I found out while picking up sessions to attend at GDC:

Session name: The technology of FINAL FANTASY

Speaker: Taku Murata

Overview: The new game engine will be used for FINAL FANTASY XIII, new MMORPG under development, and other titles in the future. In this talk, Taku will describe the whole process of the engine development; why now, why not third party engine, what is unique, how it is being developed, what were challenges, etc. You'll be able to see the technological essence of FINAL FANTASY development.

The new game engine is the White Engine (PS3 only), we all know that already. What we didn't know is that the new engine will also power a "new MMORPG under development" and "other titles in the future".

This is freaking great news. Now I just hope the MMO is better than FFXI...

Sept 7th, 2007  - Final Fantasy XIII Running on 'Cross-Platform' Engine

http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/09/final-fantasy-x.html

Development is proceeding smoothly now, with the framework now beginning to take shape. Last year we went through a development reorganization, with the development of our own cross-platform middleware – the white engine. This is the foundation for FFXIII and the new MMO. - Hiromichi Tanaka

Edit : I forgot to mention that this thread fails... Where's that soccer ball picture??
