If you go back enough, both parties were filled with Racists. The Democratic Party (the party of slavery) started the Civil War by causing enough political ruckus to get Southern States to secede from the Union. Strom Thurmond, a Democrat at the time, campaigned in South Carolina to keep segregation in check, and to keep black people away from whites. When the Democratic Party shifted towards civil rights, Strom jumped to the Republicans since their presidential candidate (Goldwater '64) was decidedly against the Civil Rights Act.
You see both parties have been hampered with Racism throughout their history. Instead of hurling crap at each other like the thieves that supposedly represent us in Congress and Senate want us to do, we should refrain from these generalizations and fear mongering and open up semi-polite discourse before America goes the way of all failed human empires.
