Correction. All energy comes from the sun. Therefore without the sun, and Earth's strategic position and distance to it, life would not be possible.

Well the "Martians" aka bacteria that live in the ice caps don't need the Sun to survive.

Too bad they are fossil remnants now.  I'm sure the bacteria are thanking Mars for that xD
