The people that watch Fox don't want the truth. They want reassurance that their worldview is the only correct one. They want to be entertained and motivated to keep doing the things they were already doing. Most of all, they want to be fed hatred and fear of everything and everyone different from them, and to wrap themselves up in an incestuous blanket of smug self-satisfaction
 

I wouldn't put it so harshly.  But that's basically how it goes.  People are more willing to believe silly comments that fall in line with there world view then reality.  This is true of most people actually, just Fox News is the first to particularly cater to it.

Heck, that can proven in a number of threads here where people hurridly post articles from bloggers, analysts and websites with questionable numbers just to prove their own individual points and say something smug and jump to conclusions... even when those articles are often the needle in the haystack.
