do a complete shutdown of it... memory has nothing to do with storage.
idk how to turn off the iphone, but if it is like the ipod touch then hold the top button until it says "power off" and slide to turn it off, to turn it on hold the top button again.
this clears the RAM, a part of anything you do keeps running so do this every day or so.
