Sure, but I'd say that there's a pretty good reason for it. America is so large that other cultures aren't always present in our society. For example, London is only about 150mi from Paris. Do you know where 150 miles gets you from Columbus, Ohio? To the edge of the state line. Most Americans have barely crossed state lines, so its hard for them to get a real idea of cultures that are almost always thousands of miles away.

Does that make it acceptible? Of course not. I hate the ignorance of people I know. But I do understand the difficulty of it, when our diverse culture is always in front of us (due to the nationalities of everyone in our country), it becomes hard to really understand and learn about others in a serious way.
