Hiroshi Yamauchi said before the DS launch that the success of this system will also decide the fate of Nintendo's next home console, because it follows a similar philosophy. If the DS succeeded, Nintendo would rise to heaven. If the DS failed, Nintendo would be crushed. Not gone, but in a pretty tough spot.
