If I had time to prepare I would just get extra supplies (wood beams, locks, etc) for barricading my windows/doors and buy a good supply of bottled water, canned food, and other foods. And of course a good supply of coffee.

Guns are so badass, how much do these devices cost!? Wouldn't mind having like a 12 gauge once I get my own place.

I can only tell you prices for Canada. If you're American they will be less expensive.
A decent AR-15 is gonna be well over $1,000 in Canada. One I have my eye on including tax/shipping and some decent iron sights for it would come to $1,800. But of course you can get them for a bit cheaper than that.
And Shotguns are pretty cheap. A Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 pump-action shotgun is only about $600 (give or take a couple hundred) depending on the model you get. And you can't really get better quality than a Remington.
And a decent handgun is gonna cost you at least $800 or so in Canada. That would get you something like a Glock 17, CZ-75 or Beretta 92.
