What you should be asking is, why are they not putting the Prothean squad member/mission on the disc and why is it launch DLC. BioWare and EA really suck balls.

Technically, it's on the disc and it's available for free for those who pay for the CE. While I don't support the move, they do have some incentives to get the CE over the normal edition, the Prothean squad member/mission is just one of those, though they should have done it like they did for Zaeed on ME2.

Is it on the standard edition disc? If so, then it' even worse...

Yes it is, but with a difference. The Protean member is one the main standard edition disc as a NPC only, to make it a playable character, it's either with the DLC or the CE.

I don't agree with the move at all, basically because it's a dick move.

Wait, so let me get this straight. Even without the CE/DLC, you can still meet The Prothean but can only add him to you're squad with the CE/DLC. Wow, that suddenly seems like even more of a rip-off.

Basically the Prothean squad member DLC and it's mission doesn't affect the game per se, it's just a small addition in the likes of Zaeed and Kasumi, but it will play a role as a NPC in the main game even if you don't have the DLC pack.

From what I've been reading today, after seeing that PR reply, Bioware is claiming that this was made by a separate team after the game was finished and that it isn't on the disc (the squad member capacity and it's mission) and that's why it was leaked on Xbox Live first. I just don't know what to believe anymore other than it doesn't stop it being a dick move.
