Noon delivery from UPS.
Still in the process of setting things up, and I've been downloading a bunch of PSV demos on the PS3, but I suppose I could still comment on my technically second impression of just the hardware itself after my in store demo at GS.
Random thoughts:
My first impression of the PSV was "lighter than it looks; feels a bit tinny as a result." With that in mind, when I picked up the PSV out of the box, now it feels heavier than I remembered. I realize the 3G model is a bit heavier, but it definitely feels more substantial than I remembered. 19 grams/.6 oz should not make a difference, which has me wondering if the in-store demo model was a stripped model that has no battery for in-store kiosk play only.
Following up on the heft with the power on and that OLED display looks a lot better when it's not under fluorescent overhead lights. In a darkened room it looks gorgeous. Blacks are inky black. Great contrast. Need to do an outdoor/sunlight test. Display creates weird black after image patterns visible when the display is off. Not an issue when powered on.
That rear touch panel is way too glossy. Like glass. Means I probably don't want to be setting it down on anything hard without applying a protective film on the back. Between that and the uber glossy display, this thing really shouldn't be taken anywhere without a case.
22 users showing up on Near. Already liking this better than Street Pass, which is one of my most liked 3DS features that actually made it worth taking onto the streets in standby mode.
Multi-tasking is really easy with the utility apps (browser, google maps, Near, etc.).
Everything about this unit is starting to make the 3DS and the PSP look and feel more like toys.
Remote Play up and running. Too easy. Video looks fantastic. Starting to think this means the PS3 is going to be on a lot more as of today.
Remote Play with PSOne games works great, but how the hell do you quit games? The PS button only takes you to the multi-task menu.
While realizing Home has a definite niche user base, it would be kind of cool to be able to run it on the PSV.
Speakers are about what should be expected of a portable device of its size. Not particularly loud, but not terribly tinny sounding either.
Still not really feeling the circle based UI. Dots just aren't the best way to use screen real estate efficiently, but I suppose they didn't want to copy what already works best in iOS.
Alright, time to transfer some demos.
