And (aside from Mario All Stars) this doesn't even include the updated remakes (Twin Snakes, Conker: Live and Reloaded). Is there something wrong with me? Why do I buy the exact same experience repeatedly? More importantly, what are some games that were so good that you had to buy them twice?

What a fantastic list!! I actually never bought a game twice myself because I have kept every game I own since I was a child!

And that's the thing. Maybe not all, but maybe 80% of those games, I still have the other version when I buy the new one. I got Resident Evil 4 from Xbox Live in 2011 when I have a perfectly good working Wii Edition and Gamecube version at home. I bought Street Fighter 4 on the 3DS last year. I got Metal Gear Solid HD collection in November and then got Metal Gear Solid 3 for the 3DS, yesterday!! I won't even go into Ambassador games, Virtual Console, and the other 3DS remakes/re-releases. It's just too depressing.
I may ask a mod if I can necro-bump that thread. I just realized that I re-bought a lot of games in 2011.
