I think it also goes back to what Sony was saying about narrowing down their catalog. I've noticed as well as you have that they seem to advertise the platforms rather than games, and yaknow, what is a consumer supposed to do if they see a game they like? Look up the "games from playstation commercial" in google?

Also, I'm really hoping he's not completely gone, but I don't know if KB is going to conitinue with Sony. I was watching the Suepr Bowl and saw a commercial with him and thought that maybe KB was all done. He's been mia ever since many weeks before the Super Bowl.

I don't feel that Sony's advertising is that poor. I enjoyed the early PSP ads (though not the middle ones or the later ones with Marcus), and after some brain-dead mistakes with the early PS3, they pulled their act together well with KB, not only because of KB's excellent character, but because those ads were usually game-focused in a way that was straightforward

We see Sony as having fundamentally the same problem (that they are trying to sell platforms on their own, and then are developing a catalogue to sell to the people who already have the platforms), but i see it more as an issue of publisher strategy rather than advertising and message.

Well, it's not an issue (anymore) regarding the quality of their advertising.

The KB ads are really good.

However, it is the quantity that they lack. MS spent 50m WW for jsut Halo 3. That is the entire budget WW for playstation Vita. MS' 500M budget for kinect is ten times that...a peripheral vs a platform.

Sony, you must understand, is a very "word of mouth" brand. It is a "status" brand. In teh recent years where their brand has fallen a bit, they need to show people again exactly why Sony hardware is so great and why it is worth the extra costs. However, they've been getting beaten in quality (and price) nearly on every front, and yaknow, word of mouth isn't going to be very handy in that situation.
