It's just a pathetic mith that piracy benefits the gaming industry, Of course it doesn't

Obviously you can cherry pick data and show that pirates on average buy games more often than the average internet user but that's only because most internet users don't play games. Any other conclusion is ridicilous.

I have been a pirate for decades (since the Commodore 64 days) and I've followed the buying habits of dozens of real life individuals around me and the trend is crystal clear - the more you pirate the less you pay. These guys who pirate spend the money they saved from not buying games on other stuff - better PC hardware, sports, on a car, travels, the movies, pizza and hamburgers, beer, the bar. For some of these individuals the notion of paying for media is ridiculous. They feel it's awkward to pay for something that is commonly regarded as free.

I know it's slightly different over there in the USA because you fear the coppers more but here in Europe no one is afraid of getting caught.

ive been pirating as long as you and my experience is exacly the opposite.

The money i saved from buying shitgames went to new good ones so in the end i bought more music, movies and games.

This happens with all my friends here in sweden, greece, italy denmark and switzerland abnd holland.

out of 10 pirates only 1 downloads and doesnt care to buy.

You choose to believe the rapports from the industry that isnt interested in the effects of downloading and only interested in the losses of DL while ignoring several buisness schools/univercities that actually tried to see the actual effect good or bad!!

THE TRUTH IS DOWNLOADING IS THE BEST!!! CONSUMER TOOL THE INDUSTRY CAN NO MORE SELL YOU SHIT AND THEY DONT WANT YOU TO HAVE THAT SCREENING ABILITY!!!

lol you are like 20, you can't have pirated as long as I have.

It is a myth. Those reports from universities from Amsterdam etc are bad, plus their main argument is that young people benefit from downloading by learning new stuff and later they contribute to society in other ways. Their argument is that downloading is good for society as a whole, not for the industry that gets its stuff illegally downloaded.

Lägg ner nu du vet att jag e 38, vi har snackat med varann innan.

it´s a myth because you dont want the to be true, they studies show some of the picture of piracy.

In poor countries and where the legal means to get the material there will be more piracy and less return from it overall.

In richer countries and where availability isnt a problem it actuall increases the sales the material that is good in the consumer eyes and diminishing on products the consumer rejects.

Whats a myth is all those looses and that the get nothing in return from the consumer is what is the myth and industry propaganda.

There are big benefts to be made through piracy for companies but the refuse it because they want to be able to sell you crap for full price.

Dowloading is a consumer tool that helps the consumer decide the quality of the product and the big companies dont want you to have that kind of qulity controll and the refuse to adapt to the new buisnessmodel that has come through the internet called availability and ease of use,

They have to adapt or they will suffer.

Here is a link to explain a little of piracy in poorer countries.

Vitezslav, a 31-year-old Czech, is one of many people in the European Union's emerging east whose opposition to a new anti-pirating pact culminated this month in huge protests across the bloc that may now torpedo the treaty.

But far from the clichéd image of an impoverished eastern European who just wants to rip movies and songs for free, the young commodities trader is a savvy, modern media consumer who actually wants to pay for what he watches.

It is all about choice - or rather a lack of it.

Because he is unable to tap the cheap, instant access to digital media available through services like Netflix in more developed states, he pays 250 Czech crowns ($13) a month to ulozto.cz, a site that offers fast download rates of pirated material.

"People here got stuck on this site because there was no other provider where we could download movies. So we got used to it, and now we pay for higher download rates," said Vitezslav, who did not want to be identified by his last name.

"But if there was another legal service that would be as easy, I would do it. I pay for higher download rates, so why wouldn't I pay for something legal?"
