The martket expanded a lot last handheld gen. Both the DS/PSP brought in new customers. Whether PSP stole the market is debable.

this was the exactpoint I was going to say. 

I own both. I mainly got the psp for home brew though and so  I could watch mp4 files on long flights. But now my android phone does a great job at what I needed from  psp at thee time.
