Xenoblade is not a perfect game though. It performs fairly well in the story department, but it is extremely lacking when it comes to the battle system, and the gigantic maps that have no purpose.

Its battle system is fantastic despite the omission of magic points and items. The gigantic maps are necessary to convey the size of the game's world. It would be silly if you are told that everything takes place on two giants while the actual gameplay only takes place in small areas. Besides, almost every area of these gigantic maps is filled with at least one thing, be it sidequest related stuff or a unique monster.

The problem with the sidequest part is that they were pretty much all the same damn thing. Kill X, Collect X, Kill an NM. I absolutely loved the beauty and the art style of the gigantic maps, but i'm not going to lie that I felt really let down by the fact that was all there was to do there. The battle system itself would have been better too if the game wasn't so damn easy. Sidequests giving XP was a really idiotic move. I also would have liked more abilities. I think you stop gaining them at around level 40 which is pretty stupid >.<

Excellent story/OST though.
