I generally agree.  But I think you need isolation play to balance out, or rather coexist with team play.  Isolation play draws double teams which creates good team play.  And team play prevents double teams.  It's synergistic, much in the same way that good defense creates good offense and vice versa.  You need both if you want to compete agains the absolute best.  Lin brings back a team that was imbalanced in isolation play since Melo was forced to be the point gaurd before.

Amare' and Lin may be great together, but Melo may be a key piece in being a top playoff team.  Plus, every great player needs someone to carry the team when they inevitably go to the bench to rest.

Mello has played with great PG before, like when Chauncey was in Denver. The issue is that no matter what the PG does, in the 4th quarter Melo acts like a black hole. The ball goes to him and never comes out... That works well the days he is hot, not so much when he isn't...
