While I would see this as unlikely, there is a possibility that there is a business deal between Epic and Nintendo that is bound by a NDA preventing Epic from confirming the Wii U runs the Unreal 4 engine. As an unlikely hypothetical, back with the Gamecube Nintendo included a third party game engine (that I can't remember the name of) as part of their development kit allowing developers to use this engine without further license to produce games, and Nintendo could do something like that with epic for the Wii U; although I would label this as highly unlikely, it could even be a scaled down Unreal 4 engine for indie developers to produce simple games for the Wii U.
