I can; he's right, partially.

Avatars are more "realistic" but Miis lend themselves better to caricature because you can do more things with more exaggerated features, to make them look like cartoon versions of more people - famous people or fictional people or whatever. It's part of the Mii charm.

Ill go with the guy who has actually used both, FYI i think they are both stupid

It has to be said that they're a bit different. My Avatar on Xbox Live looks exactly like my wife. It's freaky! Her Mii also looks like her, but it's a cartoon version of her. Both are easily recognizable as her, just in different ways.
