Porcupine_I said: this is actually one of the possible solutions to combat piracy. the people who want the game fund the game, and when it's done it's released free for everyone to share. everyone will be happy, except the people who hate sharing their stuff with others. my other solution would be to produce a game and make only one copy that will cost from $ 200.000 to 40 million according to it's budget, and once bill gates or someone else has bought it, the game is free to share. on topic: i'm going to donate |
Except for the fact that Double Fine also needs to make money, not just get enough to be able to get out the game. Or do you think the people work for free?

what do you think the money is going towards? mainly paying salaries I'd imagine... the point of the kickstarter isn't to be hugely profitable but to raise awareness and connect with the fans. Plus if the game is good then there will be profits from selling it after it is complete, so the pressure is on the devs.
update:
Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!
