From PS3 Center: http://www.ps3center.net/story-1593-Sony-Not-Ready-To-Launch-White-PS3-Just-Yet.html

A Sony America representative has come out and stated that Sony is very happy with the current two SKUs in place for the PS3, stating that it is not likely that the white PS3 will be released anytime soon.

This comes one day after it was reported that Sony made an FCC filing for a white PS3.

The rep stated that Sony does many FCC filings just like this each year and is currently perfectly happy with the two PS3 SKUs they have in place.

He stated "We haven’t made any announcements about upcoming PS3 plans, but are comfortable with our current two SKU strategy. We are continually evaluating the market trends and consumer input to determine the appropriate PS3 models for our territory."

Too bad. I was looking forward to the rumoured $299 PS3. Could still happen I guess.

Hah, don't believe a word Sony says about this.

They were denying both the 80GB and 40GB SKU until they could no longer hide its release. They don't want to hinder current sales by telling people that a newer, cheaper model will be out in a month.

I'm not saying it's true, just don't believe anything Sony says about it (or any other company, for that matter).

Agreed. Sony did this with the "price cut" for the 60GB SKU last July as well.
