From the time I've had with it:

Better than Gears of War 2 but lacks the "fresh" feel in my opinion.
I never really was able to care for the story and with the trailer, I actually thought perhaps it would bring me in. The co-op was what made the game fun for me. I had a fun time with the MP but the constant Shotgun being your all around weapon in Gears 2 made me just want to throw my controller xD. Gears 3 did improve on that but the multiplayer is just.. getting old. (i'm mostly a SP fanatic fyi)
Co-op is still fun as fuck, I might add and Horde 2.0 is a blast.
A good game.
