As you can see the US Government spends far less on healthcare compared to other developed countries relying more on the private sector and yet it's also far less efficient. What a shame. With the size of the US GDP it should have had by far the best healthcare system in the world if it had a universal healthcare system in place like all other advanced nations. But unfortunately due to the lobbying and buying out of US politicians by the medical insurance lobby as well as those ideologically opposed to any idea of helping out others using the State (though not opposed when it comes to other services such as the Police, Fire fighters, Postal Service etc), many Americans are suffering as a result.

Universal healthcare is fantastic unless you actually need healthcare ...

I don't have a primary care physician because (almost) no GP within 100 KM is accepting new patients, and if I need to see a doctor it is (usually) a 4 to 8 hour wait at the local clinic. For similar reasons my 1 year old nephew doesn't have a pediatrician, and he has been on a waiting list since before he was born. I have a friend who broke their arm tobogganing and spent 6 hours in the ER before seeing a doctor, and my father spent 3 years waiting on a variety of waiting lists to get through the process of getting knee replacement surgery.

In Canada the Universal Healthcare system has brought about significant equality among the masses by making it equally poor for everyone who is not super wealthy or well connected.

Oh wow you have to wait or drive. GUess what I just get turned away, I feel so sorry for you. My girl has had a side pain for 5 months, went to the ER and is over 20,000  in debt and no one will take a look at her with out 1000's up front. They just give her pain pills and send her on her way with a sorry.  SO I don't want to hear your whinning. Try, losing your house because your health care says you have a pre existing condition and they won't cover you. SO you have to drive and wait. OMFG!!!! LIke i said, Like beating my head against the wall. Have a good one with your free but lengthy health care that is free. O yea my girl sat in the ER from 8 am tell about 6 at night and guess what? no solution no help, just, good luck. Dude you got me heated. You have not clue and you want to comment about how hard you have it because you have to drive and wait. COme move here and stay out of our politics because your like mitt romney. You have no clue what being poor in america iS about.

Oh yea if I want to see a local docter, I better have 300-500$ in my pocket.  I worked in the moving company for years and know alot that went back to canada for there health care, I moved them back. You just think you got it bad but really you have no clue. GOOD JOB BY SHOWING YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT US OR OUR COUNTRY!

  I am sorry to hear that my friend. Actually a friend of mine was on a similar situacion a few years ago. He broke his collar bone after falling from a ladder. He went to the ER and went thru several treatments for some weeks, but at the end of the day he had a very very expensive bill to pay... Unable to pay the bill he decided to sell his house and return to Costa Rica... He is not making the same amount of money he was doing there but at least I am sure he doesnt have to worry about any future medical bills. There are a lot of foreing people coming here for healt related problems, if you ever come here and if she is in pain take her to any hospital, I am a 100% sure nobody would deny to see her or do something about her pain.
