So, I see the game of the year awards here.  Why does the third-person shooter category need to be evaluated separately from the FPS title in determining game of the year?  Why shouldn't the likes of Gears of War 3 go up against Modern Warfare 3 for game of the year involving cross-hair aiming shooters?

Can  someone explain why they need to be evaluated separately?  I can understand that, when talking nuances, there is some differences, but as far as determining a choice for game of the year?
