I am not sure I agree. Which more established franchise could be used? Mario is done to death and while he is amazing for launches I do not think its in Nintendo's best interest to launch with him. Zelda well SS just came out no way another one should launch in 2012.

I think StarFox would make an amazing launch title, haven't seen him in a proper instalment in ages. But how many units could he push? Donkey Kong has had a little while to rest a new instalment might be alright for launch but how much hardware could he shift?

I can't think of any big guns that are suited for launch. I am betting Mario will be at E3 and could be a launch title but do not know of he would be the best.

Honestly Nintendo has no competitor that we are aware of. Microsoft keeps insisting next-box isn't coming this year. If they are to be believed then the launch window is the best time for Nintendo to release some new risky IP. I know Pikmin 3 should be present at launch but thats not a huge system seller.

I think Nintendo is best to launch several brand new IP. Maybe one or two established titles in the launch window. StarFox would be perfect. Pokemon would be one of the best possible launch titles. Nintendo should not launch with a Mario game (mainstream).
