I think I've always been a gamer... Around 1986, my father won a console, I think it was a colecovision, and so I started playing with him and my big brother (I was 3 !). I also played some Atari and Commodore with family's friends and then moved on to Sega master system, a neighbour's NES and quite a lot of arcade gaming (sweet memories !) I started playing more "seriously" (I chose my own games, read magazines etc) with the original playstation and later with the amazing late 90's early 2000's on the PC. With the current generation I have become slightly more casual (aaaargl) as I know have a job and therefore less time for games. Actually, I sometimes feel that I spend more time reading stuff about games than actually playing them (curse you, internet !) but at least I'm educating my nephews to turn them into "real" gamers ^_^
