I played only part way into the first Witcher before giving up and played about the first hour of Witcher 2, but I believe that guy is (one of?) the assassin's to which the sub-title "Assassins of Kings" alludes to.

Do you play as him? I was under the impression that you onlly playes as that white haired ghostly dude in the Witcher games.
