Thats not going to be possible because....

1. What is Rare doing? The first party exclusives were heavily dependent on them in the beginning.

2. Nintendo is launching before them with the Wii U (an HD console) and Sony will be launching next to them. This means no timed exclusives.

3. They will be forced to fend for themselves on a first and second party front. This means PC gamers can kiss their glorious PC exclusives goodbye even more so if they are to depend (yet again) on third parties.

4. New Kinect experiences will be a huge selling point on the next Xbox.

1) Rare is expanding, new Twycross studio last year, new talant from a lot of racing studios. They're shifting Kinect Sports to MGS Family to concentrate on more core games again. ALL OF THEM OLD IP'S! Just to upset you.

2) Doubtful, I can guarentee 1 timed exclusive every generation.

3) Fairly easy since Microsoft now has the most first party studios of all and the biggest blockbusters on a yearly basis and now Sony diverting 1/3 of internal development towards Vita only and their Japan studios working on 5 year release intervals makes things that much easier.

4) Kinect will be around for a while indeed.

sure.. so whats microsoft games studios brining out this year for the core gamer?.. except probably ANOTHER halo game?

Microsoft are focusing now on the casual gamer now. they will next gen too.

You say like having a juggernaut franchise is a bad thing. I mean the 3 major PS3 games it has to contend with is a cancelled PSN release, a PSP title that got updated for PS3 and the sequel to Warhawk.

Halo is enough for now. Maybe if Sony announces god of war 4, tlou, tlg, killzone 4 (well not really) and lbp3 for release this holiday they will need more...but not as is. Odds are it'll be Title Fight and a handful of move games.

They will cater to the casual gamer, because now they have the means to. As it turns out it wasn't software like Viva Pinata and Lips they needed, it was another piece of hardware.  It's incredibly amazing that 6 years ago I used to hear how the PS3 would win because PS2 was for everyone, now that's what Xbox is, what WiiU wants to be and what PS3 can never be.
