You'd have to be an idiot to think they've abandoned the core gamer. They just don't need to try as hard this late in the gen, they have those users, they buy the 3rd party games. Now it's time to build up a casual base.

Early next gen they'll behave a lot like they did early this gen.

Thats not going to be possible because....

1. What is Rare doing? The first party exclusives were heavily dependent on them in the beginning.

Since when has Rare been the bastion of core gaming for the 360 this gen?

2. Nintendo is launching before them with the Wii U (an HD console) and Sony will be launching next to them. This means no timed exclusives.

No it doesn't, MS got their decent timed exclusives whilst Wii and PS3 were on the market

3. They will be forced to fend for themselves on a first and second party front. This means PC gamers can kiss their glorious PC exclusives goodbye even more so if they are to depend (yet again) on third parties.

Not going to be any different than it was to this gen.

4. New Kinect experiences will be a huge selling point on the next Xbox.

Doesn't mean they won't cater to the core. You and others are downbeat but you're not looking at the situation realistically. Microsoft is not stupid and what they're doing right now is logical. I don't like it as a gamer, but it makes sense ...

Sony and Nintendo will not share Microsofts issues next gen. The only thing Nintendo has to overcome is gaining the interest of the core on the level of the PS3 and 360 as well as casuals. The Wii U doesn't feel like a console that too many casuals will invest in unless it drops in price.

Unless you're a psychic, you can't forecast what problems any of the big 3 are going to have.
