Their fall? R.I.P Rare?
They seem to be doing well right now on the 360. I think they have just got to figure out where they fit in on the 360 still. They had the gaming world by the balls when they were with Nintendo, but things changed when they moved on over to Microsoft. Their games were still good, just that it was a different market over there. Perfect Dark was not longer the big game that it once was. There were other shooter/action games out there that people wanted to play. Banjo Kazooie was still a great game, but for reasons I do not think I can mention here, it was not for the 360.

Does Microsoft own Rare or are they just being ..leased..(I do not know the right term) by them? If leased, when is that lease up?

Note that I said "fall of the old Rare".

They're nothing like they used to be, and, as far as I know, Robin Beinland is pretty much the only great Rare employee that's left. The rest is pretty much people that Microsoft ordered in.

I agree with everything that you just said. What do you think it would take to get them back to how they used to be? Not Ultimate Play the Game time frame, but Rare Nintendo time line. Ughhh... Just read the answer to my question. Microsoft bought it out! Oh well I am done, with them. Maybe the founders will start a new companye, and get their some of their old staff back.

Well, my greatest hope is for some former key members from Rare (they're still young enough ;) to join Retro Studios as their western characteristics are very similair as shown in Metroid-Perfect Dark and both their Donkey Kong Country games. However, from what it appears it would almost be possible for Chris Seavor alone (although yeah, N64 = simpler times) to join Retro and still make quality games with their help. Question is though if he's still got the motivation, especially without Rare's IPs.

So yeah, my hopes: Nintendo buy the Rare IPs (they still have Kinect......) which would make former Rare employees rejoin Nintendo. At this point Microsoft seems to hold pretty hard on these IPs though.
