Advertisements=/=Marketing

What do you mean? Advertisements are definitely a big part of marketing

They're a part, but they aren't marketing. Marketing involves a lot more than commercials.

Sure, but was the above equation made anywhere in the article?

My point is that you can't judge the marketing of the company by just looking at their commercials. If we're just looking at commercials, each company had their ups and lows. Nintendo had some brilliant ads IMHO. Maybe they didn't have any flashiness or were memorable, but they did a great job targeting their key audience (parents, older people, young children) and demonstrating the benefits of the Wii, so much so that Microsoft is copying the same style for their Kinect ads IMHO.

Sony had some shitty ads in the beginning, and had some great ads with Kevin Butler.

But here's a question. What about price? Sony suffered critically on that. What about the target audience? Did Nintendo shoot themselves by neglecting their core audience? What about products? What games are Microsoft brining out this year?

Commercials are just one slice of marketing, and a not a huge one either. There's so much more that goes into marketing, and this article just seemed amateurish.
