Wouldn't say "only", Gears, Forza and Halo have merits and I heard talk of PGR umming and erring of making a comeback....or did I imagine that?

Just rumor and speculation.

PGR was only relevant prior to the Forza franchise. 

While I'm sure developers can do something interesting with what would now be just another driving game in an already crowded field, compared to Forza, PGR would be a second string title with limited appeal. Mostly PGR fans.
