If they ever do it, it won't be on a console but a handheld. Handhelds dominate Japan and Final Fantasy sell more games on Japan than the rest of the world.
Also, fans have somewhat mystified Final Fantasy X, leading to disappointment and not good enough sales among fans if the critic reviews are not good enough (aka 10's).
