You are focus on the retail sales meaning which console was the most purchased console by consumers in 2011.

I am focus on the shipment figures meaning which manufacturer sold the most consoles in 2011.

And when the manufacturer makes their forecast, their projection is ALWAYS shipment. That is why I really think shipment figure is more important indication than retail sales for a manufacturer.

I think I'm a bit lost here - you wanted to know how will we know if X360 is overshipped ? So I'm telling you that typically Nintendo publishes sales for 3 major territories which leaves only Africa, Eastern Europe, rest of America , Asia with no data to benchmark against. Therefore we will have quite accurate number of sold to consumer to compare with official shipment data.
