Speaking strictly as a gamer and consumer, I would hope that any launch game for the new Xbox or PS has AT LEAST two years worth of development time, ideally 3-4 on the new platform unless the next generation of hardware is so developer friendly that they can literally jump right in with existing code and still benefit from the loosened constraints of higher specs/more memory. Even then, two years is pretty much the limit for any quality $60 full retail title.
While it's hard to resist, and we all end up buying crappy games for our inaugeral year consoles for little reason other than to have something new to play on them, this time I'm really going to try and avoid doing this and instead hold all inaugeral year releases to the same buying standards I have with the current generation.
