I am going out probably against the majority here and say I like scores accompanied with explanation. While I definitely agree that the explanation of the score is the most important (I wouldn't take a score seriously without the reviewer having justified it), but when someone says the gameplay was good, I want to know how good. I like to be able to get a feel of exactly what good is defined to be in this case. Is it a 7 good or a 9 good (out of 10)? And the best way to do that is to quantify good because it is a concept that I can clearly comprehend, and I think its more effective than using different adjectives like "excellent" being defined as better than the word "good".
Just how I feel.
