Super Mario 64 is definitely the most ground-breaking and most amazing for its time, although I would have to say the Galaxy games (and 3D Land) have less fat that needs trimming off. I love them all except for Sunshine; although it does have its moments (like the rollercoaster/Mecha Bowser battle), it falls way below the status quo for a Mario game, IMHO.
