High quality printed material is usually at about 300 dpi or just a little above. Right about the same ppi the iPad 3 is going to have when it releases (somewhere in the 330ppi range). So yes, the iPad 3 is going to push more pixels on-screen than your 1080p television set.
I love comments about how Apple releases an iPad every few months. They release ONE A YEAR. That's actually a relatively long lifecycle for a product like that. Hell, the Motorola Xoom didn't even make it that long before it was replaced by the Xyboard.
I understand that many of you despise Apple for no reason other than people like their products but at least try to get your shit straight before saying something stupid on a message board.
